Watch: ‘It’s Important We Listen More Than We Speak’ – Daniel Attard On Voting Gap

PL MEP candidate Daniel Attard said that the voting gap indicates that the Labour Party, and those within it, must begin listening more than it speaks, and then reacting to what it had heard.

When asked whether he thinks the narrowing in the voting gap, which stands at around 6,000 votes, is positive for Maltese democracy because it indicates that the country has a strong opposition, he said that he needs to analyse the numbers before giving any judgement.

“I need to study the numbers better to see whether the PN has substantially increased in its votes or whether there were more PL supporters who didn’t vote,” he said.

“From the first indication I got, which hasn’t been confirmed, it seems that the numbers of the PN haven’t increased that much.”

Attard further stated that he feels “humbled” by the support that he’s received considering indications that he may win a seat at the European Parliament.

Knowing Attard’s critique of increased defence spending in the EU, we asked whether he thinks that such spending would make the EU, and in turn Malta, more secure and independent when it comes to its defence.

Attard maintained that he disagrees with bolstering the defence spending and will continue to defend Malta’s neutrality, saying that ten years of dialogue around the table is better than one day of war.
