The woman, listed among Europe’s most wanted females, is believed to have fled the island with her partner, Jomic Calleja Mattouk, who was allegedly involved in importing explosives.
“In August 2019, Marzia Marimar Calleja Maatouk was stopped by the police and found in possession of narcotics, indicating intent to supply,” stated Europol.
“Marzia Marimar Maatouk Calleja was sentenced in July 2023 to 15 months imprisonment and ordered to pay €3,500 in court fees and fines. Although the sentence was appealed, Calleja Maatouk absconded from Malta,” it continued.
“According to the latest intelligence, Marzia Marimar is accompanied by her husband Jomic Calleja Maatouk, who is also wanted in a separate case.”
The couple is suspected to have left the island via a private boat.
Her husband Jomic first gained media attention in Malta when he began trading luxury items such as Lamborghinis for Bitcoin at his store in Qormi in 2017.
In subsequent years, he faced legal issues, being convicted of attempting to import explosives via the dark web to Malta, along with charges of non-appearance in court and violating bail conditions.
In July 2023, he was sentenced to a five-year prison term, which he appealed before absconding from the island.
