Migrant Dies In Malta Shortly After Being Rescued By AFM

A woman who was among a group of migrants rescued by the armed forces has died, shortly after arriving in Malta. 

In a statement the Home Affairs Ministry said a group of 43 people, many of whom looked  unwell and distressed, landed at Senglea this morning. 

The group included 12 women and two children, the ministry said. 

“Upon rescue, migrants were provided with first assistance according to their need. Regretfully one of the migrants deteriorated upon arrival and passed away,” read the statement. 

Medical crew were on-site to assist in the operation. 

Earlier this month, 49 migrants were rescued by the AFM after they had drifted all the way to Malta.
