Migrants Knew They Were Coming To Malta Before Captain Morgan Crew Found Out

Migrants kept aboard private tourist ferries over the past few months were aware that they would be brought to Malta before the captain and crew were notified.

“They started singing and shouting. We wondered how they had found out? We didn’t tell them anything. Someone on land is calling them,” said Atlantis Captain Lawrence Cassar in an interview with TVM

Two days ago, Prime Minister Robert Abela agreed to take in over 400 migrants after the situation “became very difficult and commotions arose on board”.

However, it appears that migrants were being fed such information from Malta in advance and were told that they would be brought to land before even the crew and captain of the Captain Morgan boat.

“We can’t know [how they found out] because everyone has a phone and you don’t know who has a line and who doesn’t, but someone told them, because as we pulled up the anchor, they started singing and dancing. They started singing before we did. They knew before us.”

The decision to accept the 400-odd migrants has proven controversial with an anti-migrant demonstration being held in Valletta yesterday.

Some people also hurled abuse at activists for protesting in favour of the migrants coming to shore.
