Mini-Bus Driver Who Raped Eight-Year-Old Girl Three Times Sentenced To Eleven Years In Prison
A mini-bus driver who raped an eight-year-old girl multiple times has been sentenced to serve eleven years in Malta’s prison.
James Grech, a 40-year-old man from Qormi, was found guilty of having committed sexual assault on the then-primary school girl, 16 years ago.
While taking the stand, the girl, who is now a 24-year-old woman, detailed several counts of rape and sexual assault, which all happened in a field.
Grech used to drive her home after school, as he was her mini-bus driver. In court, the victim revealed that Grech raped her three times in total.
She also said that once, among others, he threw her to the other side of the van resulting in her bleeding from her mouth and nose after she started to scream and cry so that he wouldn’t do anything to her.
She said as well that the second time he raped her, he also kicked her in the stomach with his foot.
The mother of the victim realised what was happening after she found a diary where the girl was detailing the immoral acts.
Initially, the man was sentenced to 12 years in prison, however, he appealed the sentence and managed to get one year removed.
Apart from the prison sentence, the man has also been ordered to pay €500.
Do you think 12 years of jail time is a fair sentence?
