45-year-old Mohamed Hamdan pleaded not guilty to the murder of his Bidnija murder Jean Paul Busuttil.

Hamdan, a Libyan national who was born in Syria and has been living in Malta for several years, was charged yesterday on multiple counts. Besides murder, he was charged with damaging another person’s property, carrying a firearm while committing a crime and breaching previous court sentences.

Inspector Kurt Colombo Zahra told the court that Hamdan was driving the wrong way down a one-way road in Bidnija on Sunday morning when he was involved in a collision with Busuttil.

An argument arose between the two men in the presence of a LESA official, after which the accused left the scene on his son’s motorbike and returned a few minutes later with a gun that he used to shoot Busuttil.

He said that Hamdan admitted to shooting Busuttil when confronted by a police officer on the scene.
