A man going for his morning jog along the Sliema Promenade was attacked out of the blue in an unprovoked assault by two knife-carrying men, leaving him shocked and terrified.

“While I was enjoying my run, I noticed two guys sitting on a bench. Out of the blue, and without provocation, one of them got up and punched me in the face so hard, that he threw me away on the grass,” the man told Lovin Malta.

“When I started shouting for help, these two guys ran away. I was shocked, my head buzzing and terrified.”

Thankfully, two men nearby began the chase the two attackers. One of the men was apprehended by the men and police then arrested him, discovering that he had a knife in his possession.

“I might have been very lucky today, as it could have been much worse for me,” he said.

Police have confirmed that a person has been arrested and investigations are still ongoing. However, he questioned whether more police presence is needed.

“I am 62 years old, and every morning I enjoy going out for a walk or a jog. Can I still do this? Is the Sliema Promenade safe anymore? All this happened at 7.15am, when the promenade is busy with joggers,” he said.

“Do we need more police patrolling so that we can feel safe again?”
