Moroccan Man Arrested In Malta With 1.7kg Cannabis In Suitcase Coming From Spain

A man has been remanded in custody after being found with cannabis in his suitcase after landing in Malta.

The Moroccan man, Ameur El Hichami, 42, was arrested earlier today after getting off a Ryanair flight from Seville, Spain.

Customs officials noticed something suspicious in his suitcase, and upon searching it discovered 1.7kg of cannabis.

In court, El Hichami was charged with cannabis trafficking and possession of a drug in a quantity indicating it was not for his personal use.

He pleaded not guilty and his lawyers made no request for bail.
