Mosta Landlord Accused Of Beating Up Tenant In Front Of Toddler: ‘She Pushed Me First’
A landlord accused of entering a private apartment and beating a mother in front of her child has strongly denied the claims against him.
Speaking to Lovin Malta, the landlord, who is based in Mosta, “utterly denied” the “banal fabrication” being spread in the media to “damage” his reputation.
“I can’t wait to go to court over this so the truth comes out,” he said. When asked if he punched or beat his tenant, he said that she had tried to push him first, to which he pushed back before she tried to “kick him”.
The landlord added that the tenant had previously damaged parts of the apartment, including the cooker, coffee table, cabinets, and outside wall.
The landlord’s first public reaction comes after serious allegations against him involving a physical beatdown as a result of blinds blowing out of an open window were made public- following an escalation between the landlord and tenant that had been brewing for months.
The victim’s family spoke to Lovin Malta to detail what their young daughter, who is a mother, went through, also providing a medical document to show the injuries she obtained during the alleged incident.
The incident, which happened at around 3pm last Saturday, occurred within the apartment owned by the landlord, which she rents out.
“He lives in the same block of apartments and was on his way to his apartment when he noticed that my daughter left the window open and the blinds were flying in the wind,” the mother, who is still shocked at what her daughter went through, told Lovin Malta.
“He first called my daughter on the phone verbally assaulting her and she hung up on him. He then knocked on her door while she was resting on the sofa with her three-year-old son and as soon as she heard him shouting she called her dad to tell him that her landlord is angry and wants to come into the apartment,” she continued.
“He used his key to get into the apartment, seeing as she did not want to open for him, yelling that she is going to break the blinds. My daughter is very petit and he is four times bigger than her – he pushed her to the floor, started hitting her in the face, took her mobile and hit her on her face with it.”
“He continued verbally assaulting her and she was screaming for help and trying to protect her 3-year-old son at the same time. When she managed to get hold of her phone again, he left the apartment.”
“Besides the physical injuries, the trauma she has will take a very long time to get over, as besides being afraid for her own safety she had her three-year-old son too.”
The daughter has been left “traumatised” by what she went through, her family said.
Lovin Malta spoke to the police, who confirmed that an investigation was “launched right away after the report was filed with the police on Saturday, October 8, 2022”. They also confirmed that a copy of the report had been passed on the victim today.
Within the report, the daughter told the police:
“He called me on my phone and started yelling, telling me not to break anything else. I told him to stop yelling or else I was going to hang up and I hung up. I called my dad straight away. Whilst I was still on the phone with dad, he tried to call twice to which I did not respond, so he came banging on the door and shouting for me to open up. I told him I was not going to open and he had no right to come in. Obviously, he opened the door, came in and pushed me back, and he threw my phone in my face. He slapped me in the face and pushed me down onto the floor. I hit my leg and my knees whilst on the floor. He bit his hand in anger and I went by the window screaming for help.”
