Mosta Tree Protest Still On For This Evening, Targeting Local Council And ERA

Despite the U-turn over the Mosta tree felling, Moviment Graffitti will still protest this evening, to demand the council and mayor Chris Grech shoulder responsibility.

“This is a massive victory for the community, who have once again showed that change is possible when you fight against those who steamroll all over them,” Graffitti said.

“We will still convene at 6:30pm in front of the Mosta local council though.”

Graffitti said the protest now has three goals – to celebrate the victory, to call for Grech and the council to shoulder responsibility for the “obscene decision they took and that was only reversed thank to public resistance”, and to request a reform in ERA, which is “clearly not serving its function to safeguard the environment”.

Despite Grech’s U-turn, the 12 ficus trees – which have been in the Mosta square for over 50 years – have been reduced to stumps as part of the pruning process.
