Mqabba deputy mayor Jonathan Dingli has pledged to donate the next two months of his honorarium to an NGO that works with victims of domestic violence.

Dingli said he is making this move to show that his recent comment comparing Adrian Delia to “women who like to be beaten” was not meant as an endorsement of domestic violence.

“To show how yesterday’s comment truly had nothing to do with domestic violence, I would once again like to apologise,” he said.

“I acknowledge that it was excessive and could certainly have hurt many people, especially women who have suffered from the scourge of domestic violence.”

“Therefore, to send a strong message that violence against women in any form is never acceptable, I will be donating my honorarium for the next two months to Dar Merħba Bik, an NGO that works extensively with women going through this social scourge.”
