The man who was fatally shot in Mqabba last night has been identified as Saviour Gaffarena, TVM has reported.

Gaffarena, 27, was found dead in a car in Triq il-Konvoj ta’ Santa Marija at around 11:30 last night. His 17-year-old cousin was found injured in the car with him.

According to TVM, the Gaffarenas were shot in Qrendi, close to the Il-Maqluba sinkhole. After the incident, Saviour Gaffarena’s cousin drove off down the road to Mqabba, where police found them.

The Mqabba edition of the Malta International Fireworks Festival had just ended and several people were walking back home or to their cars when they stumbled upon this crime scene.

The police will deliver a press conference about the crime at 10:30am.
