Multiple people have died after a boat carrying migrants capsized during a rescue operation on Friday morning.

Independent reported the boat in question was carrying around 30 migrants who were crossing to Europe  when it requested urgent assistance.

AFM responded to the distress call however the vessel capsized during the rescue mission and multiple people are reported to have drowned.

A joint rescue mission by members of CPD and AFM together with other emergency services from Mater Dei are currently at Sai Maison where victims are being brought to shore and taken for further treatment.
