Muscat’s European Dreams Appear To Be Over After Casa Claims Socialists Reject Nominating Him For Any EU Post

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s long-held ambitions to take a top EU post appear to have taken a massive hit, after the Party of European Socialists reportedly declined to nominate him for any of the available posts.

PN MEP David Casa, who has a confrontational relationship with the PM, said that primary indications showed that PES were not going to back Muscat.

Muscat’s unrivalled dominance over the Maltese political landscape has seen him emerge as a major power player across the entire European Union

While his economic success and liberal approach has endeared him to the generally progressive European block, the serious allegations levelled against Muscat’s government and the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia may have dampened his chances.

With landslide after landslide victories leaving the Opposition’s PN in ruins and a wealth of young talent occupying the PL, Muscat could do a lot worse than continue leading the country beyond 2022 and build an unrivalled long-term dynasty.
