MUT Labels St Albert The Great Rector’s Alliance With UPE As ‘Mischievous’

The Malta Union of Teachers has slammed the St Albert The Great rector’s alliance with the Union of Professional Educators as “mischievous”.
In a strongly-worded statement, the MUT referred to a meeting held with educators at the St Albert The Great College together with the UPE.
“Yesterday, in an anticipated communication regarding St Albert the Great College, the UPE boasted about a cordial meeting held with the rector,” said in a statement.
“How mischievous of a rector inviting UPE, which represents no educator, to spite his employees who are instead represented by the MUT.”
“How mischievous it is to hear the same narrative of the rector through the communication of UPE who, according to their ‘robust quality assurance mechanisms’ could assess that the school is, quoting, ‘fulfilling its aims and objectives’.”
“How mischievous it is to have the whole ordeal being described as a ‘storm in a teacup’ when the school is on its knees thanks to the rector, UPE’s friend.”
It continued by saying that this “UPE-rector alliance is no surprise and shows how the UPE is ready to enter into alliances with management to please him whilst throwing under the train educators’ and students’ interests”.
“The UPE-rector alliance also shows how low one can go to stick to his oppressive and axing management style whilst clinging to his seat.”
It also stated that the UPE was never trusted by anyone and this alliance with the rector proves that at any time, UPE sides with management to support management’s interests other than those of employees and students.
It concluded by promising that the MUT will continue to stand up for educators at the college and shall continue to safeguard the interest of students.
The St Albert The Great College has been at the centre of controversy after the sacking of former headmaster Mario Mallia, leading to countless resignations from educators.
