Does a discoloured banana signify that the fruit is actually filled with blood that has been injected with HIV?

Nationalist MP Edwin Vassallo gave credence to this conspiracy theory today when he shared a Facebook post warning of the hidden dangers of such fruit.

“If you see that your fruit contains red weird colour in it, don’t eat it because a group of people is injecting fruit with blood containing HIV and AIDS with the aim of killing millions of people around the world,” the post reads. “That is Satanism. Please share this post and save others.”

Vassallo was immediately called out for sharing false discrimination, by members of the LGBT community.

“You’re completely misinformed as to how HIV is transmitted,” Clayton Mercieca from the Allied Rainbow Communities said. “This is fake news and not to be expected by someone in your position!”
