A total of 486 people have been arrested across France by 3am on Sunday, after riots erupted following the fatal police shooting of a 17-year-old in Paris.

It is the fifth night of unrest, but recent reports say violence has become less intense since the death of Nahel M in the Parisian suburb of Nanterre on Tuesday.

Interior Minister said Gérald Darmanin 45,000 members of the security forces were deployed on Saturday night, especially Lyon, Grenoble and Marseille where rioting was the most intense.

He also said that the average age of arrest was 17.

Over the last week, rioters looted more than 700 shops, supermarkets and restaurants, while more than 2,000 vehicles were set on fire.
