The Turkish Embassy in Malta has appealed for winter clothing, canned food and women’s hygiene products and baby formula after earthquakes rocked the country.

As the death toll reaches 5,000 people across Turkey and neighbouring Syria, a three-month state of emergency has been announced in the region by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Maltese people have been wondering how they can help out.

The island has sent 32 specialised search and rescue workers already – but today, the Turkish Embassy appealed for specific items for those who have the means to donate.

All donations can be delivered to the Turkish Embassy at 35, Sir Luigi Preziosi Square, Floriana, and the donations will be sent to the country via Turkish Airlines.

New and unused items suitable for winter conditions are the priority as rescue workers continue to retrieve people from beneath the rubble and a layer of snow.

Items like tents, blankets, sleeping bags and even power-banks and generators are also being sought.

You can find the full list of items below:

Rescue workers have retrieved over 8,000 people from the rubble since earthquakes rocked the area in Turkey and Syria.

If you have the means to donate, you can really make a difference.
