NET In The Lead: PN Media House Increases Viewership Dominance Over ONE TV
NET increased its viewership gap over its PL counterparty ONE, the Broadcasting Authority’s latest survey has confirmed.
The BA asked respondents to mention up to three TV stations they had watched the previous day.
TVM was mentioned by 33.5% of all respondents, maintaining its position as Malta’s most followed TV station but registering a pretty sharp decline from the 41% it registered in March.
Foreign stations (all grouped together) were mentioned by 20.7%, up from 17.6%, although this increase was largely attributed to the Olympics 2024 opening ceremony that was televised on Rai TV on 26th July.
NET was mentioned by 18.4% of respondents, very slightly down from 18.7%. However, ONE dipped from 17% to 15.3%, meaning the viewership gap for political party media houses now stands at 3.4 points in favour of the PN’s media house.
While PN leader Bernard Grech praised NET employees for this achievement, this survey will come as a fresh concern for the Labour Party, which shed several thousands of votes at the June elections.
In his first speech as PL deputy leader, Alex Agius Saliba stressed that ONE must change its strategy and shift away from constant praise of the government if it is to reach a wider audience,
Since then, Karl Stagno Navarra’s Pjazza, ONE’s flagship show for fierce political talk for seven years, was cancelled and replaced by Bil-Fatti, a show that seems to be giving more space to non-PL voices in society.
