New Headmaster Of St Albert The Great College Appointed To Replace Mario Mallia
A new headmaster has been appointed at St Albert The Great College to replace Mario Mallia, Lovin Malta can confirm.
Rector Fr Aaron Zahra told the newsroom that a new headmaster had been appointed, but refused to reveal who had been appointed to the role.
Lovin Malta is informed that Horace Gauci, who served as the mayor of Marsaxlokk between 2014 and 2019 and is an educator by profession, is the new headmaster.
However, Zahra refused to confirm or deny when asked, insisting that the appointment hadn’t been made official just yet.
Still, sources inside the school claim that Gauci is already at the school and has started working.
Meanwhile, it appears that there were few applicants for the position, indicating a lack of appetite to fill Mallia’s shoes.
Sources have also expressed their concern about the potential proximity between Gauci and the Zahra. Photos uploaded on social media hint at a familiarity between the two men.
Mallia was sacked from his position in July, sparking widespread backlash among educators as well as parents of students that went to the school.
The Malta Union for Teachers has already declared “its mistrust in personnel being selected by the rector and board. This follows the declaration of mistrust in the same rector and board, which led to an industrial dispute”.
