New Medication To Replace Outdated HIV Treatment For Patients In Malta

New HIV medication will begin replacing Malta’s outdated treatment for patients, activist group Malta Gay Rights Movement announced.

“This is great news for people living with HIV and also for society as a whole,” the LGBT activists explained, affirming this following a meeting with Health Minister Chris Fearne.

“Better medication means a much lower risk of HIV transmission, and a better quality of life for HIV-positive people.”

But despite improvements, Malta still faces pertinent issues when it comes to sexual health.

Around five people a month contract HIV in Malta, while just 7,218 people or around 2% visited the national sexual health clinic in Mater Dei Hospital last year.

MGRM and HIV Malta have flagged a lack of improvements at Mater Dei’s GU Clinic which remains under-resourced and understaffed, despite the health minister’s pledge to double headcount by September 2019.

Meanwhile, Gozo still doesn’t have its own sexual health clinic.
