A new survey by statistician Vincent Marmarà has revealed how PN members intend to vote if Alex Borg – the overwhelming favourite – decides not to run for the leadership.

The survey, which was leaked to Lovin Malta, was carried out between Sunday and Monday, shortly before Adrian Delia announced he would seek a return to the PN leadership. As of the time of writing, Borg and Debono have yet to announce whether they intend to run for the post or not.

However, there were several reports that Borg and Delia did not intend to run against each other.

The survey re-confirmed that Borg is the favourite among tesserati at 27.1%, followed by Delia at 20.5% and Franco Debono at 10.3%, with other potential candidates polling at below 1%.

Meanwhile, 40.6% didn’t provide a response.

Debono’s level of support is particularly significant since he has been out of the political scene for the past 12 years, while Borg and Delia are both sitting MPs.

During his time as a PN MP, Debono proposed a wide-ranging bill with several reforms, such as the right for suspects to be assisted by a lawyer during criminal investigations, the splitting of the Attorney General’s Office, and a party financing law.

There were a few shifts from the findings of an internal survey that was leaked to The Times last week. Borg’s support slightly dropped by 0.4%, while Delia’s rose by 1.2% and Debono’s by 1.5%.

Debono is now the overwhelming favourite among PN members aged 16-25, garnering 30.8% of their support, compared with 15.4% for Borg and 0% for Delia

Among 26–35-year-olds, Borg leads with 32% support, followed by Debono at 20% and Delia at just 4%.

However, Delia enjoys stronger backing among older PN members, particularly those aged 66 and over, where he receives 30.2% support – compared to 19% for Borg and 6.1% for Debono.

The survey also asked members for their second preference for the leadership position.

Without Borg, Delia emerges on top with 35.5% of support, with Debono in second place at 15.6% and 45.8% non-committal.

However, Debono holds a lead over Delia among PN members aged 16 to 45, while Delia leads among those aged over 45.
