New ‘Żomm Tarmix’ Platform Launched For Businesses To Donate Nearly Expired Food

A new local initiative, Żomm Tarmix, has been launched to connect businesses with voluntary organisations in an effort to reduce food waste and help people in need.
Spearheaded by the Malta Food Agency, the platform allows businesses to list food items nearing their expiry date while NGOs can input their requirements. The system will then automatically match available supplies with demand.
Businesses participating in the scheme will also benefit from tax reduction incentives as a sweetener. Additionally, the Malta Food Agency will promote businesses that sell near-expiry items at discounted prices and provide them with official signage to raise awareness.
Only voluntary organisations registered with the Voluntary Organisations Commission will be eligible to take part.
Prime Minister Robert Abela, who launched the initiative, highlighted the importance of food security, particularly in light of challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and other geopolitical issues.
