At about 2pm, a number of police officers arrived on scene, cordoning off a section of the pavement by the busy Triq ix-Xatt. A patrol boat and even the army’s Bomb Disposal Unit quickly followed.

However, in new footage sent to Lovin Malta, the luggage, which has now been brought up to shore, can be seen being covered by a sheet and being taken to a mortuary van which had arrived on the scene.

This is a developing story.
