Jonathan Schembri declined to comment further while the case continues to develop

The Police have called in the architect of the construction site neighbouring an apartment block that partially collapsed earlier this morning, Lovin Malta can reveal.

Speaking to the newsroom, Jonathan Schembri confirmed that he will be visiting the Police HQ for questioning later today.

He declined to comment further on the case itself until he can “see exactly what is going on”.

While investigations as to why the building collapsed are still ongoing, the blame is already being directed at the apartment’s adjacent development, which was undergoing excavation and demolition works

Both resident and Pieta’ Mayor Keith Tanti confirmed that they had filed a complaint with the Building Regulation Office (BRO) in the preceding months. It appears, however, that these concerns were ignored.

Multiple sources have given varying accounts over why the claim was ignored. Sources have either commented on the severe lack of resources that are made available to the body or hinted that while the request may have been listened to by BRO, the required reports and follow-through from developers was not followed.

BRO was unavailable for comment.
