A man suspected to be behind the brutal murder and dismemberment of an as-yet unidentified man who was discovered inside a floating suitcase off the coast of Gżira-Sliema promenade has reportedly been arrested.

Times of Malta quoted sources close to the investigation who said the suspect was apprehended by police at a property after an intensive three-day manhunt across the island with the help of CCTV footage. The same sources said the case appears to be related to the importation of drugs.

Earlier today, further details from the victim’s autopsy revealed over 100 cocaine capsules inside his stomach, with some of them believed to have burst at one point. However, the autopsy also revealed that the man choked to death before being cut up with an axe.

It is believed that the victim’s corpse was dismembered and dumped at sea just hours after his death. Since his body had not yet decomposed by the time it was discovered, it is also believed that the murder was committed mere hours before the suitcase washed up near Manoel Island.

This is a developing story.
