A man’s corpse was found a mile out to sea at St Julian’s Bay at around 6.45pm night. As of this morning, the police are not in a position to verify the man’s identity, but fears are growing he was a 19-year-old Frenchman who drowned after jumping into the sea during a boat party.

The young man was at a party on the Fernandes boat near Sliema on Friday night when he, along with three other revellers, jumped off the boat. The Armed Forces of Malta were sent on site to fish the four people out of the water, but could not find the young Frenchman. He could not be found either after two helicopter search and rescue operations on Friday night and Saturday morning.

Citing sources within the Armed Forces, One News reported today the search and rescue operation has been dropped following the recovery of the body last night.
