End Of An Era: Former World Champion Boxer Scott Dixon Retires After Winning Final Fight In Malta

It was an evening not to be missed – former three-time world champion Scott ‘Super’ Dixon took on Ludvic ‘The Buġibba Bomber’ Muscat in what he called his final-ever career fight.

The event, which was organised by Dixon’s promotions, saw eight fights between some of Malta’s best up-and-coming boxers, with some veterans competing too.

Speaking with Lovin Malta after the fight, Dixon told the newsroom that he’s going to concentrate more on the gym now to train the next generation of boxers.

“I’m trying to concentrate in the gym now, raise the next generation of fighters. Build better people on a daily basis. I’m still in the fight game. I always will be. I’ve had a great career and I know that I have made a real impact in Malta,” he said.

“I’ve brought boxing up here and increased the standard. It was a good fight to finish on. It was the trilogy, I’d been wronged in the second fight – so it was good to reinforce the fact that I’m the true king of the Maltese islands.”

Hosted at the Montekristo estate, Scott Dixon was to fight ‘dog-house rules’ – meaning the fight would continue, without breaks, until one fighter can’t go on anymore.

In his usual charismatic style, the Scot, aged 46, took on Ludvic Muscat in the final fight of the evening. I had the pleasure of being the announcer and MC on the night, having been asked by the organisers to do my best Michael Buffer impression.

After missing some punches, Ludvic had to endure the taunts and humiliation as Dixon brushed off his shoulder. The Scotsman then placed his glove above his eyebrows psyching-out Muscat by pretending to watch his punches ‘fly-by’.

The fight continued and Dixon had Muscat on the ropes – eventually proving too much. The third-generation boxer took out Muscat eventually winning the Toby Dixon memorial belt – named after the famous trainer and Dixon’s grandfather. He ended his career with a nine-minute and 47-second bout without a single break.

Dixon’s girlfriend Clara Bezzina narrowly missed out on a win – surprisingly – as she had dominated the final two rounds of three.

Meanwhile fourth generation boxer and son of Scott Dixon, Toby Dixon entered the world of boxing the same night as his father exited it. The 16-year-old started off slow but his confidence rose with each second passing – bouncing around the ring like his father did so many times before.

In the end, the result ended in a draw – and so another Dixon prodigy starts undefeated.
