Kite Surfer Smashed Against The Rocks In Qawra As Strong Winds Sweep Across Malta
A 30-year-old Polish kite surfer is in danger of dying after he was smashed against the rocks at Ta Fra Ben Bay, Qawra this afternoon.
On a day of severe gale force winds, the surfer lost his balance and was tossed to the rocks at around 3pm, TVM has reported.
Police officers, Civil Protection Department officials and paramedics were called on site and the man was rushed to hospital for treatment.
An eyewitness told Lovin Malta that the wind must have either ripped the kite out of the surfer’s hands or lifted him up with full force.
Malta Weather has warned people to “expect the worst” from tonight and tomorrow morning.
“Severe gale watch! Force nine winds from a northeasterly direction are expected this coming Sunday with potentially damaging gusts up to 100km/h! Average wave heights will be of around six metres, possibly peaking at 13 metres! The strongest winds are expected between 4am and 10am on Sunday! Don’t park your vehicle under large trees and don’t go near the sea in exposed areas! The Gozo Ferry service is also expected to be affected!” Malta Weather posted.
