A “major operation” is currently underway in Marsa after a “considerable” number of people have been found living in stables.

More than 80 migrants were found living in the squalid conditions. In some cases, up to 10 people were living in the same small stable, with around four people in every seven square metres. Some 40 of them have been arrested, mostly for being in Malta illegally.

Planning Authority boss Johann Buttigieg announced the operation on Facebook. He said the Planning Authority was working closely with immigration officials, various sections of the police force and Health Authority officials.

The raid took place in Triq il-Gerrejja.
