Time Is Literally Ticking For Heads Of Police Commissioner And Attorney General
The pressure is growing
Civil society activists have continued to pile on the pressure on the Prime Minister to sack the police commissioner and Attorney General, and have launched a new website with a timer since the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia
“Since Daphne’s brutal murder on the 16th of October 2017 at 3pm, the police commissioner and the Attorney General have not resigned, nor have they have been replaced by substitutes elected by two thirds of Parliament, as was requested by Civil Society Network,” the website reads. “The people are waiting and are expecting justice to be served.”
Police commissioner Laurence Cutajar and Attorney General Peter Grech have found themselves in the line since Caruana Galizia’s assassination, with the Opposition and civil society activists arguing their failure to safeguard the rule of law had laid the ground for the journalist’s murder.
A group of protestors will this evening set up camp in Castille Square to demand the two top officials are sacked immediately. Both Cutajar and Grech have indicated they are not ready to resign.
