The Malta Police Force are looking for a 39-year-old Italian man in connection with a shooting which occurred last month in Burmarrad Road, Naxxar.
The suspect’s name is Damiano Alfio Rannisi, and the police have also issued a photo of the man to the media.
The incident, which happened on the night of the 12th December 2017, saw a 43-year-old Maltese man from Paola being picked up by two men in a “brown car” in Xemxija. They continued driving towards the Burmarrad Industrial Zone, but along the way, an argument erupted. It is believed that the argument involved money and drug trafficking. One of the men reportedly pulled out a shotgun and shot in the direction of the other men, with one of them being hit by the bullets, police said.
The shooter then drove away in a “brown car”, which was found the next morning near the Mosta Bridge area, with a window shattered from the previous night’s gunshots.
The injured man was left to walk to the nearest gathering of people for help, which turned out to be a late night function in a cafe in Triq il-Burmarrad, Naxxar. Partygoers immediately helped the man and called the authorities, and the injured man was taken to Mater Dei and certified as slightly injured.
Another man has already been arrested in connection to the shooting, cooperating with the police. The police are considering this shooting as an attempted murder.
