Malta has confirmed six new COVID-19 coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, including a one-month-old baby and a healthcare worker.

Superintendent for Public Health Charmaine Gauci delivered this update a day after Malta recorded 52 new cases, the highest spike since the start of the outbreak.

Today’s figures, following a day in which a record of 993 swabs was carried out, bring the total number of COVID-19 patients up to 299. There have been no deaths so far.

Gauci urged people not to grow complacent about the sudden drop in cases, warning that the trend is still upwards and that the goal is to ensure the number of cases rises as slowly as possible.

If you are suffering from symptoms, even light ones, associated with the coronavirus, follow the following guidelines:

Stay indoors and avoid contact with other people, as you would with the flu.

Do not go to Mater Dei, the emergency department, health centres, private clinics, or pharmacies. Stay home and call the public health authority’s helpline 111 to set a swabbing appointment.

You should isolate yourself at home until you receive your test results. If you test positive for COVID-19, you should expect to receive your test results within a few hours.
