One of Malta’s most dedicated and respected police officers has passed away. Respects are pouring in on social media, under a post in the Salott, with members of the public praising the man’s dedication to his job.

Alfred Sciberras was known for letting children climb aboard his motorbike to pose for photos, even making one young Swiss boys holiday that much more exciting.

“Today was really the best day on holiday for our son,” the post from October 2015 reads, “to sit on a police motorcycle was fantastic for him! Thanks a lot to the very kind police officer.”

It doesn’t take much reading through the comments on that post to see how revered the officer was in the local community.

The Malta Police Force praised Sciberras’ hard work in the post, echoing the same sentiments of today’s respects.

One comment under the post read: “He honoured the uniform and served his country with the utmost humility, seriousness, love and dedication.”

Another wrote: “He is one of the best traffic policemen we ever had!”

Others left messages of condolence to the family, with one saying that Heaven would relish in the pleasure of welcoming him.

Emergency physician Dr Michael Spiteri, who worked closely with Sciberras, described the officer as an honest man who was devoted to his work. Dr Spiteri also noted that Sciberras had saved many lives himself, through his work as a traffic warden and responder to road accidents.
