A Maltese plus-size model has opened up about the harassment she received after sharing her personal emotions about what it’s like taking care of her dying mother.

Miss Emily Jones, who has 150,000 followers on Instagram, was sharing her struggle with bereavement and dealing with all the hardships and complications that come with a dying mother, as well as her struggle with chronic pain – but she soon began receiving some less than savoury messages in response.

“Shut the fuck up, damn, and show me the big ass and tits,” one person said in response to her opening up about her personal experience.

“Oh man, I’m unfollowing this sob story,” said another person.

Miss Emily Jones spoke to Lovin Malta about the experience, saying it’s enough to make you “lose faith in humanity”.

“Could you imagine saying this to someone who’s talking about caring for their dying mother?” she asked. “This is difficult because I can’t leave my mum on her own whilst my dad isn’t at home during the day.”

However, her fans were ready to support their queen, and, as she herself notes, the positivity far outweighs the negative.

“Thank you so much for your kind messages of strength since I posted yesterday!” she posted yesterday following a flood of supportive comments.

“I appreciate them so much honestly. I started this page with the intention of being honest, being myself and sharing the struggle of dealing with chronic pain, bereavement etc… and trying to keep a positive attitude in situations like these,” she ended.
