Bjorn Formosa Reflects On ‘Ten Years Of Suffering And Miracles’ As He Marks A Decade With ALS

Ten years ago, Bjorn Formosa was diagnosed with ALS, a condition that according to research, gave him just three years to live.
But today, he’s still here. And he’s spent the last decade transforming Malta’s support for people living with neurological conditions.
In a heartfelt message shared online, Bjorn reflected on what he called “ten years of suffering… but also ten years of miracles, hope, and love.”

With the support of the Maltese public, Bjorn turned his diagnosis into a mission and a movement.
Together, three major milestones were brought to life:
- Dar Bjorn Qormi, opened in 2017
- Dar Bjorn Żebbuġ, launched in 2023
- And now, the Dar Bjorn Respite, officially under construction
To help complete the final funding needed for the new project, Bjorn has announced that the annual ALS telethon will take place on 31st August, a summer date he admits is “a little crazy”, but necessary.
“This campaign isn’t just about buildings,” he said. “It’s about being there for every resident, every family, every person who needs a hand.”
