Francesca Falzon was named Youth Activist of the Year at FreeHour’s Youth Awards in recognition for her voluntary work with cats.

Soon after the BCRS plastic bottle recycling scheme was launched last year, Francesca started utilising the system to help stray cats, collecting thousands of bottles and using the money to purchase cat food for colony feeders.

Over the past year, she managed to raise over €10,000, as well as €27,000 to set up two animal sanctuaries.

“The idea stemmed from taking something very irritable that no one wants to do and using it to its full potential,” Francesca said as she accepted her award.

“It’s all for the animals. They’re voiceless and they make us happy; whoever has a pet knows this.”

The Youth Activist of the Year award was sponsored by Lovin Malta.

Well done Francesca!
