Emma Tranter, a Maltese photographer, got to live out a lifelong Coachella dream while rocking up on stage – and backstage – capturing shots of some of the world’s biggest artists performing at one of the biggest annual music festivals.
Tranter, a photographer, content creator and cyber security specialist enjoyed privileged access to artists on and backstage at the festival’s two-weekend run – capturing incredible shots of the vast crowds being swept up in the energy of their favourite musicians.
“Justin and Hailey Bieber, Lewis Hamilton, Khloe Kardashian, Kate Hudson, Lil Nas X, The Weeknd… all of these celebrities were in attendance, and I was around them backstage!” Tranter told Lovin Malta.
Still, despite fulfilling a lifelong dream, Tranter had a job to do.
Working with some of the festival’s biggest names – Jamie Jones and DJ John Digweed – requires a great deal of hard work, dedication and attention to detail.
“This was a show where we had production and visuals check at 3am, when the festival site was empty,” explained the photographer. “Then, we were back there at 9am for soundcheck with our full crew of artists, dancers and singers for rehearsals, just before the performance that same evening.”
“It was quite surreal as we ended up playing after legendary band Blink 182 on the first weekend,” Tranter continued. “And while I was there we got to hang around and I saw Rosalía, The Chemical Brothers, Frank Ocean, Fred Again, Labrinth and so many more great acts.”
A quarter of a million people went to Coachella this year – and Tranter was fortunate enough to be upfront capturing iconic photos while watching the masses swirl and sway in the unrivalled energy of Coachella.
