Donate To Animal Shelters Rather Than Send Flowers, Ben Laferla’s Mother Urges Funeral Attendees

Ben Laferla’s mother has urged people attending her son’s funeral tomorrow to honour his memory by donating to animal shelters rather than sending flowers.

“Rather than sending flowers, we think Ben would be happier for you to donate to Noah’s Ark, CLAWS, or to Adopt a Sicilian Stray,” Fiona Laferla said.

Ben, 21, died this week after he was involved in an accident where an underage driver lost control of a GoTo rental car and crashed into a wall in Swieqi.

His mother Fiona has now announced details of his funeral, which is set to be held tomorrow morning at the Ibraġ Parish Church.

“In true Ben style, please wear whatever you’re comfortable in, no need to wear black,” she said.

“Should you wish to do so, print out your favourite photo of/with Ben to attach to a collage at the entrance to the church. Feel free to write a message at the back of the photo.”

“The burial will be attended by close family only due to space restrictions.”

“Rather than sending flowers, we think Ben would be happier for you to donate to Noah’s Ark, CLAWS, or to Adopt a Sicilian Stray. Thank you to everyone for your love and support.”

Ben’s tragic death shocked the nation and friends of the young man who spoke to Lovin Malta remembered him as a “kind and beautiful soul” who craved happiness.

“He was always joking around and he taught everyone to live in the moment. He never failed to make anyone laugh. He always put a big smile on people’s faces. He cared to make a difference by teaching people not to take life so seriously. That was his energy, to me and to many people to be fair,” one of his friends said.
