The middle son of one of the most praised and respected footballers in Hibernians history is about to begin his own football journey – and he couldn’t be more excited.

Emmanuel Mbong, the son of Essian Mbong, affectionately known as ‘Papa’ during his long and successful time in Malta’s Premier League, will be joining Kalkara FC.

“I’m feeling very confident and happy,” Mbong told Lovin Malta a few days after his signing. “Because I’ve joined a team that really believes in me.”

Last year, Kalkara were at risk of being relegated to Third Division after a tough season, but Mbong contributed to the team saving their spot in the league – and now, he’s ready for bigger and better things and is set on helping Kalkara reach First Division.

“This year, our objective is to be promoted for the first time in Kalkara’s history to First Division,” Mbong said. “I am very much looking forward to this challenge.”

His older brother, Joseph Mbong, currently plays for Hibernians as well as the National Maltese team, and Emmanuel is ready to continue building on the Mbong legacy.

“My hope is to be recognized by people, make a name for myself and yes, help my team win and make history,” Mbong ended.
