Fighting Ageism In Floriana: Active Ageing Centre Praised By State

The Floriana Senior Citizens Active Ageing Centre located on the ground floor of the Local Council building has seen considerable progress, with the government praising the local council for its work on inclusion and accessibility during a visit.
The project, which is partly financed by Norwegian Funds, is aimed to create a more inclusive space within the community.
To do this, it will make the building more accessible with new lifts and toilets. The centre will also include a kitchenette and a recreation room so that the elderly have adequate space to socialise.
A carer will also be present in order to provide the necessary help. Meanwhile, as soon as the centre opens, it’s planned that basic courses will be given to those interested.
The Minister for Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela, together with Parliamentary Secretary Alison for Local Government Zerafa Civelli and Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds Chris Bonett visited the work in progress.
The three politicians praised the local council for its work against social exclusion and age discrimination.
“This is the vision that together we want to fulfill, to improve the quality of life and work for the good of the community,” Abela said.
Floriana Mayor Vincent Borg said that the project is expected to be inaugurated and open to the elderly at the beginning of next year.
The opening days will be from Monday to Friday, during the middle of the morning.
