Jake Vella Continues His Studies With Online Classes In Hospital
Local inspiration Jake Vella is starting the new academic year at Mater Dei Hospital where online lessons will keep him up-to-date with his Year 10 material.
“Today marks the start of the new academic year,” a post on his social media read.
Jake is a young Maltese triathlete who is battling a rare condition called ROHHAD; Rapid-onset Obesity with Hypothalamic dysfunction, Hypoventilation, and Autonomic Dysregulation.
This condition affects his hormones which leads to obesity and makes it extremely difficult to lose weight – no matter how hard he trains or the healthy lifestyle he leads.
The boy has stolen the nation’s heart and earned everyone’s respect by running, cycling, and swimming his way through hundreds of kilometres. In 2021, he even completed a staggering 100km swim inspired by Neil Agius and aimed at raising funds for abandoned animals, as well as awareness about plastic pollution.
And now, he’s entering his tenth year of school, unfortunately in a hospital bed but still, with a bright smile.
Lovin Malta wishes you the best of luck, Jake!
