Jake Vella Inspires Fifth Edition Of Castille Square’s Christmas Gift-Giving Initiative
The festive spirit has come alive once again in Castille Square, near the Christmas tree and traditional Maltese crib. Dr. Lydia Abela the wife of the Prime Minister, launched the fifth edition of the “A Gift with Love” initiative.
Abela is honouring the memory of Jake Vella, who actively supported the initiative last year. Describing Jake as an inspiration to everyone and praising the amount of altruism he demonstrated throughout his life, Abela recounted how he always made sure to keep others pushing to contribute to this initiative.
Abela explained that the program started in 2020 and initially was developed with her daughter Giorgia-Mae but has expanded to include local councils.
This year, Christmas trees will be placed in towns and villages across Malta and Gozo, where residents can leave gifts between 12th and 19th December. These gifts will be collected on 20th December and placed under the main Christmas tree in Castille Square.
For the first time, children from schools across the Maltese islands are being encouraged to contribute by donating gifts, adding a new dimension to the initiative.
Abela invited families to visit Castille Square on Friday, 20th December, to participate in a day of activities at the Christmas Village while placing their gifts under the tree. The Christmas Village will host various activities from 16th to 20th December.
Abela has also announced that this year’s edition will include a special initiative at Mater Dei Hospital in memory of Jake Vella, focusing on supporting abandoned animals. Donations of food and products for animals can be made as part of this effort.
The initiative is carried out in cooperation with authorities and officials to ensure that all gifts are properly inspected and distributed to children. This year, the project is being carried out in collaboration with Magic 91.7.
Abela encouraged the public to come together to make this year’s “A Gift with Love” another successful edition, helping to bring joy to vulnerable children during the Christmas season.
