Andrew Arrigo, son of the late PN MP Robert Arrigo, delivered a brief but moving speech at the end of his father’s funeral this morning.

“Life is so beautiful and must be lived… let’s do good while living it,” Arrigo said, echoing his father’s words on the F Living Show late last month in what would turn out to be his final interview.

Arrigo also announced that all the events his father had planned for December, including a charity dinner in aid of Puttinu Cares, will take place as scheduled.

“I promised my father that I will continue what he was doing,” he said to applause from the congregation.

A popular politician and hotelier, Arrigo served as Sliema mayor from 1994 till 2003 before he was elected to Parliament as a Nationalist MP. He spent the following 19 years in Parliament, including five years as PN deputy leader, before he passed away this week following a battle with cancer.

Several people, including Prime Minister Robert Abela, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, turned up at his funeral at the St Julian’s Parish Church to pay their final respects.
