Local Bird Photographer Snaps Crisp Photo Of Mount Etna At Salini Salt Pans
Avid bird watcher and bird photographer, Mario Gauci has just snapped a breath-taking rare sight of Mount Etna on the horizon.
While on an early morning stroll, Gauci noticed the clear silhouette of Sicily’s Mount Etna just over the horizon across the Mediterranean. The sight was spotted at Salina Salt Pans, which makes part of the Salina Nature Reserve managed by BirdLife Malta.
Gauci, who is a seasoned bird photographer told Lovin Malta that the location is a hotspot for fellow bird watchers such as himself, but today another wonderous sight caught everyone’s eye.

“Every morning I take my dogs for a three-hour walk through Salini Salt Pans where dedicated staff and keen photographers gather to capture beautiful images of birds and other animals,” Gauci told Lovin Malta.
Gauci was quick to snap a stunning photo of the event, showcasing the towering volcano amidst a hazy pink sky. Many have managed to capture this phenomenon from around various locations on the island, however, the weather conditions have to be just right, making it truly a rare occurrence.
