Local Hero Jake Vella Speaks Out For First Time After ITU Ordeal
Malta’s favourite young triathlete and inspiring hero Jake Vella has reached out after spending three difficult weeks in the Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU).
In a Facebook post, Jake offered his thanks to the people who supported him during his ordeal in hospital.
Jake was originally rushed to hospital in November this year as he found difficulties breathing and wasn’t able to communicate with the people around him. He was kept in the ITU for three weeks and was released from the unit a few days ago. He is currently still in hospital.
Jake suffers from ROHHAD NET – Rapid-onset Obesity with Hypothalamic Dysfunction, Hypoventilation, and Autonomic Dysregulation. ROHHAD NET is one of the rarest conditions in the world. Only about 75 people in the world have this condition, which leads to weight gain regardless of exercise and diet. Jake is doing his best to fight the condition by leading a healthy and active lifestyle.
Referring to his time in the ITU, Jake mentioned how he misses his dog Maya, and appealed to people who want to support him to donate to the Association of Abandoned Animals, which runs a shelter in Birżebbuġa.
Those interested in donating can do so by sending an SMS to: 5061 7350 – €2.33 // 5061 8060 – €4.66 // 5061 8910 – €6.99 // 5061 9200 – €11.65.
