Local Influencer Calls For Pepper Spray Legalisation Following Disturbing Encounter

Local influencer Sarah Alfalah has opened up on social media about a harrowing experience she faced while out on her daily walks, urging authorities to consider legalising pepper spray for women in Malta.
According to her posts, she was followed over the course of three days. On the third day, the situation escalated when the man allegedly exposed himself and masturbated in front of her at 7pm, while it was still light outside. Despite feeling extremely uncomfortable, she initially assumed the man was simply walking for exercise.
Alfalah reported the incident to the police and received follow-up from the sexual assault department, which she described as “very thoughtful.” She also shared a description of the alleged offender: slightly overweight, tanned, possibly of Filipino descent, wearing a black oversized t-shirt, black Bermuda pants, and carrying a black backpack with orange stripes.

Expressing concern for the safety of women in public spaces, she highlighted that incidents like this could happen anywhere, from beaches to playgrounds and walking tracks. She argued that the lack of cameras in certain areas increases vulnerability, leaving women exposed to such predatory behaviour.
In response to her experience, she called for the legalisation of pepper spray exclusively for women, suggesting that authorities regulate its distribution and penalise misuse. “Not an idea but something that needs action on, we’re not safe!” she wrote.
Her posts have sparked conversations online about women’s safety in Malta, personal security measures, and the need for stronger protective policies.
