Maltese triathlete Fabio Spiteri will attempt to complete a physical challenge that’s never been completed by anyone before… except himself.
Fabio will be running across the sister island, swimming the Gozo channel, then running across Malta, as he did last year. And now, he’s looking to break his own record.
Fabio has a time of five hours and 45 minutes to beat.
However, he’s looking to do a lot more than simply complete an insane challenge of mental and physical toughness. He’s looking to push his limits in this sweltering summer heat for a cause that’s very dear to him.
Fabio is using his incredible abilities as a platform to raise awareness for RMJ’s Horse Rescue, a charity dedicated to rescuing and caring for severely neglected horses until they are ready to be re-homed.
“Last month we were told that our rent is going to increase meaning we would have less funds to save horses,” RMJ commented. “The donations we collect from this event will go towards the upkeep of the horses and for transport when they’re rehomed abroad.”
The challenge is as follows…
Fabio will start in Gozo where he’ll run from Għarb to Ħondoq ir-Rummien (15.5 kilometres).
He’ll then swim the Gozo channel to Malta (6.1 kilometres).
He’ll finish his challenge by casually running from Ċirkewwa and finishing in Birżebbuġa (30.2 kilometre).
Fabio plans to start his super session during the first week of August and will pick a day according to when the waters are most calm.
He will also have a support boat during his swim and a crew to cheer him along the way.
