Malta-Based Designer Wins ‘Best Product Design 2024’ Award At The BIG SEE Event In Ljubljana
Malta-based architect and designer Tom Van Malderen has just been awarded the prestigious BIG SEE Product Design Award 2024.
At the three-day BIG SEE event held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, the awards were handed out across multiple categories seeing the participation of renowned brands like Volvo, Hisense and JBL.
The local designer alongside Qormi-based furnishing company, Dari, developed “driTT” a collection that reimagines and redefines the logic of traditional techniques.
The project features an extensive line of melamine-face pieces including tables, shelving, desks, benches and stools, all manufactured here in Malta.
Aptly named “driTT”, a play on words on the Maltese word for “straight”, the collection explores the “endless layers of complexity within simplicity” within straight lines.
“While a straight line may seem simple, it opens up infinite possibilities,” said the designer, “With driTT, we’ve infused industrial production with a playful twist, creating functional yet sculptural pieces.”
