Maltese Policeman Helps Pregnant Couple Beat Traffic To Reach Hospital In Time
A pregnant couple headed to the hospital to give birth this morning found themselves in a spot of trouble when they hit traffic in Mosta – until a kindly police officer stepped in.
At around 6:30am, an officer who was on his way to start a day of work was approached by a driver while he was stuck in traffic in Triq Frangisku Pisani, Mosta. The man said that his passenger was pregnant and had to be taken to hospital immediately since she was in labour.
“After the officer called for backup, thanks to the cooperation of the drivers present, he managed to escort the couple with his personal motorcycle until they met the Traffic Police who took over all the way to the hospital. Thumbs up to our boy in blue and congratulations to the couple,” the Malta Police Force said today in a congratulatory Facebook post.
The policeman in question opened up about why he didn’t think twice when he realised the situation.
“I only did what I had to do,” said PC Daniel Debattista.
“Thanks to the drivers out there who gave way to myself and the couple behind me in their personal car although I was on my personal scooter. We managed to make it through the traffic next to Kinds and through Lija cemetery. I’ve been contacted personally by this couple and I’m happy to say that the woman gave birth to a baby girl 45 mins after arriving at the emergency. Also thanks to the traffic colleagues that assisted – Domine Dirige Nos.”
